【団役員コメント:Wayne Devitte】 We have finally arrived! After a long journey across the Pacific ocean, making our way from Shimizu to Majuro, and on to Yap,we landed on Miyako Island. Everyone was excited to be back in Japan, and looking forward to being on land and doing some activities on this little pearl of an island.Today, the students learned that the ocean and beaches are precious and need help. We went to Long Beach on Miyako Island and saw what they have to deal with all of the time. We helped a local volunteer group clean the beach of plastic that has washed ashore. It was a sad sight for all of us as the beauty of the beach was marred by the tremendous amount of plastic waste from various parts of the world. Though it was sad, we felt a great sense of accomplishment when we finished and had removed as much of the plastic as we could. The students had a valuable experience and did something for the local community. It is truely a day to remember.
